HIKING / CROSS-COUNTRY SKIING
Saltfjellet is a paradise for those who want to enjoy nature in all aspects! There are many marked trails in the area and several are available right from the hotel. See www.bot.no for suggestions.
Saltfjellet's eastern regions is flat and mostly very easy hiking terrain on mountain plateau. Some very fertile valleys cut in from both south and north. The large mammals that need plenty of space around them to thrive wander over the mountain ranges. At Saltfjellet there are large deposits of marble, which has provided the basis for amazing caves . So you can find challenges both above and below ground!
Junkerdal National Park has a landscape full of contrasts with rich flora and many rare plants. The area is important in regards to Sami cultural monuments, and to understand the distribution of plant species after the last glaciation. Junkerdalsura nature reserve has one of the largest lime birch forests and flora has an incredible lushness to be this far north! Along the trail are several orchids.
There are a number of good fishing lakes in Saltdal where you can catch trout or char. The closest lakes to the hotel are Wiskies and Kjemågavatnet, both about an hour's walk from the hotel. Fishing license required - see www.statsskog.no for details. Saltdalselva is a famous sea trout and salmon river, excellent for both fly fishing and fishing with lures. Grønligrotta (approx. 1hr 20min. east of Lønsdal) is one of Scandinavia's most visited limestone caves, that water and ice have spent 700,000 years to dig out. A guided tour takes you several hundred metres into the mountain. The cave café offers a fantastic view of the Svartisen glacier as well as great hiking opportunities. For the adventurous traveller we recommend a guided tour of the Setergrotta Cave. You can experience large kettles, gigantic chambers, ice and limestone formations, narrow marble passages and an underground river.
Saltfjellet is a very important area for Sami culture and sacrificial monuments. The Sami people are one of the world indigenous people. When in Sapmi, the land of the Sami, take the opportunity to learn more about their culture, customs and history. Available for groups. Learn about a reindeer keeper’s every day life and/or feed and pet tame reindeer. It may also be possible to try driving a reindeer sled and to learn to throw a lasso, plus other activities depending on season

Junkerdal Tourist Center offers rental of snowmobiles that can be used on the large Swedish network of snowmobile trails. Guided tours on request .
ALPINE / DOWNHILL SKIING / SNOWBOARDING
Junkerdal Tourist Center offers down hill, snow board and slalom skiing in season.
BICYCLE AND CULTURAL HERITAGE TRAIL
Nature based adventure trail close to Saltfjellet and Junkerdal national parks - from the Arctic Circle via Misvær, Saltstraumen and to Bodø! The bike path will mainly go along existing roads, part of which will be extended or upgraded .
Close to the hotel we can combine different activities for groups, such as lasso throwing, balancing, intelligence tests, ax throwing and cable car . Activity trails are suitable for participants of all ages and with variable physical shape.
From the hotel you can fly into the Saltfjellet / Svartisen and/or Junkerdalen national parks, an incredible experience with diverse and beautiful mountain scenery! The helicopter can go down on the Swedish side of the border if a stop is wanted. www.mnhs.no
ARCTIC CIRCLE TRAIL
12km walking and bicycle path on the old road "Saltfjellveien" between the mountain top "Sukkertoppen" and Bolna . Information boards about the natural and cultural heritage in the area.
ARCTIC CIRCLE CENTRE
The Arctic Circle Centre is situated where the Arctic Circle crosses the E6 at 66 ° 33 ' north, 680m above sea level. The centre has a distinct arcitecture and the Arctic Circle goes right through the building. Shop and movie theater showing a multi-media program "Welcome to the Arctic", with wonderful music and images from the Arctic Circle area. Open May 1. to September 1. www.polarsirkelsenteret.no

Network of trails in beautiful surroundings, the arboretum, forest ranger farm Solvågtind, Kjemåfossen and Junkerdalsura.
Information board and all tree species have name plates. The oldest trees are from the early 1900's.

Saltdalselva is a quiet river that is suitable for most people, but you also get to try out some serious rapids! Along the way there are also some opportunities for bridge jumping. For groups of 6-16 people or on request. www.saltdalsopplevelser.no
You lie on a board and sail downstream in the river, learning to be familiar with the river, how to master the board and "read" the river's potential and limitations. Possibility to surf on any waves in the river. Guided on request. www.saltdalsopplevelser.no
You need no prior knowledge to paddle on a sit-on- top kayak! You're not strapped in so you will not be trapped in the kayak under water. On our trips in Saltdalselva you learn to paddle a kayak while the instructor is teaching you about paddling techniques and how to " read" the river.
